Names used to carry a lot more weight in times past. They served as ties to lineage, and/or bore the impressions parents held of their offspring at birth. My first name holds no such association, however, I do embrace a meaning suggested by several sources such as this one, found on behindthename. com:
Kevin = Anglicized form of the Irish name Caoimhín meaning “handsome birth”, derived from the older Cóemgein, composed of the Old Irish elements cóem “kind, gentle, handsome” and gein “birth”.
It’s not so much the handsome part 🙂 as looks are somewhat subjective, and also change with time. Rather, it is the kind, and gentle reference I find affirming of my character.
So, it is in a spirit of kindness and gentleness that I am embarking on a blog-based journey of self-emptying (kenosis). It is being made public for the benefit of you, the reader, and as with so many things seemingly done only for the benefit of others, for me the blogger.
What is Kenosis? It is a Greek word used in theology in reference to Christ’s “emptying” himself of his divine nature. There are controversies and heresies surrounding this subject, however, this is in no way associated with my use here. It is used here to depict my vision of transparently sharing my discoveries in life with you.
I am a student of and for life. Studying comes naturally to me, and I have a voracious appetite for it. However, this can lead one to hoard knowledge with little effort or time spent to share what one is discovering with others. In my defense, I have shared what I have learned with others, even serving in temporary capacities as a university lecturer, and conference speaker, yet the imbalance is obvious to me.
As of this post, I have studied in official institutions of learning for 25+ years. My university level studies have included a 4 year degree in theology, a Master’s degree in Christian Apologetics, and a PhD in Theological Ethics. While pursuing each of these degrees I worked full time in Information Technology related occupations, and still do to this day.
So, I welcome, and invite you to come along with me as I share my heart. To eliminate the possibility of distractions (such as trails rabbits find appealing 🙂 from the content posted, I will keep responses to my posts private. If I receive a response I think suitable to the post(s), I will post it. You are welcome to email me personally via the address listed on this site.
Thank you for your interest, I hope you find something of benefit to you.
